Yesterday, we went to the Hope Center to deliver the bags. We finished with 13 full bags, and some extra bags. Below is the list of items that were in each of those bags. In those extra bags we had 5 shirts, 3 bras, and 3 boxes of underwear. We then had about 30 extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss. We also had a bag of shirts that were donated to us that could be sold at the Boutique they have. There were about 10-15 nice shirts in those bags, with the tags still on them.
Overall, this project was a lot of fun to do. It made me happy knowing that I get to help out with such an important cause.

For these 2 weeks, we have been gathering the needed supplies to finish the bags. So far, we have enough for exactly 5 bags. This was the number that the lady at the Hope Center said would be more than enough. We still need to get "cute" bags to put these items in, so when we get those we will be able to post a picture of what they look like.
This past week we also designed a shirt to sell for even more money. We were not able to order the bracelets because they would not come in time before the 9 weeks are up. So, we are having Faith's mom make shirts for us to sell. The design is shown below. This coming Sunday we will be working the café at the church to get extra money for even more bags. Once we get the money for this, we should be able to make at least 5 more bags. Our goal is to make as many bags as possible with the money we are given. This week Faith and I went to Walmart and the Dollar Tree. We were able to buy 5 plain t-shirts, 3 pairs of flip flops, 5 sets of shampoo and conditioner, 4 hand rags, 3 sports bras, 3 pairs of underwear, 12 combs, 5 things of deodorant, and 5 hair brushes. A student in our class had her mom donate 45 toothbrushes and 45 tubes of toothpaste. We've spent about $80 so far.
We then went to RealLife church to talk to them about this project. They told us that we could work the café at one of their events and all of the proceeds would go to us. With this money, we can buy a lot more for the girls. The church also said that they would make a social media post spreading the word about our project, and show a promo video at their church sessions. They then said that they would have group competitions within the youth groups to help collect donated items, or cash. This is going to help us out a lot. Then, we printed out fliers to hang around the school. We also printed 2 large posters to have in the cafeteria and a main point in the hallway. The next step for us to do is to order the bracelets. We have them designed, we just need to order them. Once we do that, we will sell them at sporting events and at school for $1. This will give us a profit of $104 if we sell every bracelet. Faith Hensel and I both wanted to do a project for the Hope Center, but we weren't sure about what exactly we would do. We decided to contact the owner and ask if there was anything that they needed or would like for us to do. They said they were in major need of necessity items for the women. So, we came up with intake baskets. Inside of these baskets there is a shirt, leggings, flip flops, shampoo, conditioner, a comb/brush, a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, underwear, a sport bra, and hair ties. These are the items that every woman receives once they arrive at the Hope Center.
The Hope Center is a place for sex-trafficked women. They live here long enough to get back on their feet again. This project is so important to us because we want to help these women out in any way that we can. With this project, we hope to collect enough items to make several intake bags to give to the Hope Center. We want them to have more than what they need, because different numbers of women come in each week. For Proposal Day, we gathered all of our objectives, resources, and logistics. For our objectives, we just want to collect enough items for the women. We also want to spread awareness about sex-trafficking and how it affects the women in our area. For our resources, we were given a $250 grant, which is awesome! We plan to use this money to buy the needed items, and possibly order some bracelets to sell to spread awareness. We also plan to make a list of the items needed and stand outside of CVS or Walmart and ask people to pick up an item from the list and drop it off on the way out of the store. We then plan to possibly set up a table at football games or other sporting events. Here, we will give people the opportunity to donate money, buy a bracelet, or just spread awareness of the project and show ways that people can help. This is a picture of what the bracelets might look like: |
